Requirements

Undergraduate

All students seeking to admittance into an undergraduate program at the University of the Incarnate Word must meet the following general requirements:

  • Students should also have been out of high school for at least five years. Active duty military members are typically exempted from this requirement based on service.
  • A 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in previous college work is required for admission to the University. Based on academic criteria, a student may be asked to take an academic placement test for advisement purposes.
  • A student must have completed three years of full-time employment. An adult who has worked full-time inside the home or will also fulfill this requirement.

NOTE: This policy is for active duty military only.  The residency requirement for face-to-face or online courses at the undergraduate level is 30 credit hours (25%). The residency requirement can be fulfilled with courses taken in any instruction format offered at UIW.

Graduate

All students seeking to admittance into a graduate program at the University of the Incarnate Word must meet the following general requirements:

  • An earned Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.5 can be admitted conditionally with an acceptable admission exam score.
  • At least one of the following as specified by the degree program:
    • A nationally recognized entrance test specified by the discipline.
    • Evaluation by one or more professionals from the intended field of study.
    • Professional certification; or a degree, of equal or higher level than that sought, from an accredited institution of higher learning.
    • Letters of recommendation.
  • In addition to program appropriate Admission Policies; international students must submit a minimum TOEFL score of 560 and have transcripts and course descriptions translated into English.
